Question

This is part of a chemistry lab, and I am stuck on the last problem. My female adult patient has an iron concentration of 78.8. The medium range that it should be for an adult female is 140. (100 is low, 140 is medium, 190 is high).

I am not sure if I used the correct units on the first part for the answer. 0.0025 is the slope of a graph to find the molar absorbitivity.

The only thing in the procedure that is supposed to help with the last problem is the following: Iron (II) sulfate is used in the treatment of iron deficiency anemia. If you need to remove iron in a clinical setting, you would administer an agent that would bind to the iron and cause it to be excreted. Deferoxamine is used in the clinical treatment of acute iron overdose. Deferoxamine has a molar mass of 656.8 g/mol and binds to Fe3+ in a one-to-one ratio.

114 Iron Deficiency Analysis Part II: Graphical Analysis Attach a graph of absorbance versus concentration. Indicate the molar absorptivity. Use the Lambert-Beer equation to calculate the concentration of iron in your patient's sample. Show all steps of your calculation. O. Vannm Based on the calculations from your experimental results, is the iron level in your patient's blood too low or too high? Explain in detail how you would treat your patient's condition. As an example, give the specific treatment for a 20.0 mL sample of blood. ncrease iron level" or "decrease iron concentration" are not sufficient answers.) Explanation / Answer

In the first part the calculation are correct based on the information. But according to the inform given Defeoxamine is used for treatment of acute iron overdose. But excess usage of Defeoxamine removes more iron from the blood. Probably the amount of Defeoxamine given to the patient mighty be more leading to the below levels of normal concentration of the iron. So the amount of Defeoxamine given to the patient should be checked.

According to the results shown in the test the female patient has avery low concentration of iron. So the patient might be asked to take a iron rich foods like green leafy vegetables, meat, liver etc. But if the Defeoxamine dose is used more during the test then the patient should be re-examined after few days again.
