An 80-year-old woman has been informed she has stage 3 lung cancer and needs to make some decisions. She verbalizes to the RN that her family wants her to have surgery and chemotherapy. She tells the RN that she may have the surgery but does not want the chemotherapy. The patient states the decision is causing her to lose sleep. When she wakes up she can feel her heart pounding and has a hard time catching her breath.
Develop a nursing care plan addressing the physiologic and/or psychological symptoms this woman is experiencing.

Explanation / Answer
Nursing diagnosis:- The 80 year old lady developes the Ineffective airway clearance related to tumor mass Chest X-ray must assesst the conformation of the tumor mass. The outcome of the assessment will be maintaining the source of airway. One of the interventions that the patient must take is to take deep, hydrated breath to facilitate the airway clearance. Another intervention is that the nurse should discuss with the surgeon for the prepartion of the surgery and to take care the old lady.
