Question
How do I balance the chemical equation from the following question? If you burn lithium in excess oxygen to produce lithium oxide, Li2O ...the question is about finding delta H which I'm fine with, but doesn't give the equation so I'd just like help coming up with the equation. I'm not used to coming up the correct ratio of reactants when only given the product. Another question gives the product of sodium bicarbonate, NaHCO3 ...any help and explanation on the reactants and balancing would be very appreciated.
Explanation / Answer
burn lithium in excess oxygen to produce lithium oxide, Li2O
balanced equation:
4 Li (s) + O2 (g) -----------------------> 2 Li2O (s)
NaHCO3 production:
NaOH (aq) + H2CO3 (aq) -----------------------> NaHCO3 (aq) + H2O (l)
