Question
Explain how the muscle cell can increase the number of glucose transporter very quickly when blood glucose levels rise as indicated by insulin binding to its receptors Explain how the muscle cell can increase the number of glucose transporter very quickly when blood glucose levels rise as indicated by insulin binding to its receptors Explain how the muscle cell can increase the number of glucose transporter very quickly when blood glucose levels rise as indicated by insulin binding to its receptorsExplanation / Answer
In healthy humans insulin by binding to its receptors moves the GLUT4 transporters from intracellular locations to surface of plasma membrane thus, the GLUT4 transporters uptake more glucose and store in the skeletal muscle. In type 2 diabeted the reverse of this condition is observed. This is because the impairement of insulin causes the GLUT4 transporters not properly moved to surface to uptake the glucose.
