Question
Explain how soil characteristics can affect nutrient intake at the roots Explain two strategies plants use to live in nitrogen poor soil (associate with nitrogen fixing bacteria or carnivory) Describe the effect of increased CO2 in the atmosphere has on photosynthesis Describe how plants transport water, nutrients and sugars Explain how plants use osmosis, diffusion and active transport in order to move water, nutrients and sugars throughout the plant. Explain how stomata are used for water conservation Compare the mechanisms used in xylem and phloem transport.
Explanation / Answer
Soil characteristics affecting nutrient intake:
Strategies of plants to obtain nitrogen in nitrogen poor soil:
Carnivorous plant: These plants have developed structure which facilitates them to capture and digest insects to obtain nutrients including nitrogen from insects.
When in low concentration of CO2, photosynthesis increases as the CO2 concentration increases. But at higher concentration, high concentration of CO2 do not have any impact on photosynthesis rate and photosynthesis rate remains constant.
