Question
Provide correct answer with details please
The values of X, A, and n are related to one another. Using a periodic table and a knowledge of these relationships, the value of each can be determined from a knowledge of the others. If the element symbol is known which of the following can be determined for the isotope from the periodic table? Write an equation describing the relationship between the mass number (A), the number of protons in the nucleus (np), and the number of neutrons in the nucleus (nn). Write an equation describing the relationship between the charge on the species (n), the number of protons in the nucleus (np), and the number of electrons moving about the nucleus (ne).Explanation / Answer
1. Mass number (A) = the no. of protons in the nucleus (np) + no. of neutrons in the nuceus (nn)
example:for carbon np=6 and nn= 6
then A= 6+6=12
2. The charge on the species (n)= no. of protons in the nuceus(np)- no.of electrons (ne)
given oxygen no. of protons 6 and electrons=8
n=6-8=-2
