Question
Provide correct answers
1. If f(x)= 5x-7, what is the equation of the tangent line to the graph of f at x= A?
a. y-a= 5(x-a)-7
b. y=5(x-a)+(5a-7)
c. y-(5x-7)=5(x-a)-7
d. (y-5x+7)/(x-a)=5
2. The tangent line to the graph y=g(x) at the pount (1,6) passes through the point (8,5). Determine each of the folowing. Provide answer in a/b form
1. g(1)
2. g'(1)
3. Find the constant a so that f(x)= {8x^2, x > 1 is continous on the whole real number line.
{ax-4, x,1
4. Which of the followin expressions represents the derivative of tan(x) at a= 2pi/3
Explanation / Answer
1. Equation of tangent to a straight line at any point is same as equation of straight line so,
equation is y=5(x-a)+(5a-7) which is y = 5x-7, so Answer is B.
2. Equation of tengent passing through (1,6) and (8,5) is 7y + x =43
g'(1) is equal to slope of tengent which is (-1/7)
g(1) is value of y co-ordinate of line when x = 1 which is y = 6
3. Equating value at x = 1 as it is continious function
8*(1)^2 = a*(1) -4 and a = 12
4. Tan (2pi/3) = -1.73 so to make it 0/0 form answer has to be C
