5: Tim Cook: Tim Cook (full name is Timothy Donald Cook) is an American citizen who is currently the CEO of Apple Inc. Before taking the mantle as the CEO of Apple Inc. Mr. Cook was the COO (chief operating officer) of Apple and reported to the then CEO Mr. Steve Jobs. In terms of background Tim Cook is an industrial engineer who started his career in Apple in the year 1998. He joined the company in the role of Senior Vice President of its worldwide operations. He rose the corporate ladder quickly within the company and became the company’s Executive Vice President for its worldwide sales and operations. As Steve Jobs was battling with his health problems and was on the verge of his death Mr. Tim Cook was handed over the reigns as the CEO of the company in the year 2011. Before joining Apple Inc. Tim worked for companies like IBM, Intelligent Electronics and Compaq. Tim Cook’s leadership style is quite different from the leadership style of Steve Jobs, his predecessor. While Steve Jobs focused more on products the focus areas for Tim Cook consists of three key areas – people, strategy and execution. Under Tim Cook’s leadership the company made significant strides. Very recently Apple Inc. achieved the milestone of surpassing the $1 trillion market capitalization. Tim Cook can be credited with introducing successful products like Apple Watch and AirPods. The company also made significant changes in its strategy with regards to i-Phone under Cook’s leadership. The company now focuses on margins and profitability and is now not chasing volumes at the cost of profits. This has enabled the company to become more profitable and more stable financially. Tim Cook is also increasingly focusing on the company’s service businesses like Apple Pay, iCloud, and AppleCare to drive up its revenues as well as profitability. The future of the company looks promising under the able leadership of Tim Cook.
