Explanation / Answer

Ethical issues in Human Resources:

There can be various issues in the organizations. But of all the issues or problems, ethical issues are considered to be the most complicated one for the organization to deal with. There can be various kinds of ethical issues in the field of human resources. This can include issues regarding employment, remuneration benefits, health & safety etc.

In this case, ethical issues can arise on salaries, executive packages, incentives etc. the HR manage will face the pressure of raising the basic pay. He is also under the pressure to pay more incentives for the top management than the middle or the lower level in order to retain them. Further ethical issues also arise when the HR manager discusses the compensation plans with an external consultant or the top management. They must also handle the pressure of the top management rather than the interests of the employees or the stakeholders.

Many organizations still have the practice of differentiating on the basis of race, gender, disability etc. there has been existence of laws & regulatory framework which ensures that employees have been treated equally & all employees behave with each other in an equal manner. A good organization must try to reward their employees only on the basis of performance & not on any other basis. Hence the managers & other top management in the organization are trained adequately to ensure that there are no discriminatory practices in the company.

Ethical issues arise on employment when the human resource team faces the issue of recommendation. Even if they find people suitable for the particular position, they may face pressure when the employees internally would recommend their friend or relative for the post.

Another problem can arise when the person hired has presented fake documents or certificates. Both the above mentioned cases are critical for the HR team & are opposite to each other. In the first case, because of the problem of recommendation, the company would have hired someone who may not be suitable for the position & in the second case, the company would have hired the right person with the right skill set but he would have cheated the company. These kinds of situations would require more intelligence from the HR team to handle.

Employees working in the organization may sometimes demand to respect his personal side. The personal life can include things like his religious, political, social beliefs etc. this may sometimes need to be terminated by the employer. For example the employer has to sometimes scan some mailing activities of the employee which may not be of that much beneficial to the organization.

This almost exists in all the organizations. HR team may sometimes face this issue where they may give higher rating to employees who may not perform up to the mark but for the reason that they may be close to the top management. On the other hand a low rating may be given to highly skilled & talented employees because of reasons like religion, caste, color etc.

Some employees may do work that can be hazardous to their health. There are laws & regulatory frameworks available to compensate the effected employees. Ethical issues in this case can arise when the organization fails to do so.

The above mentioned are the various issues faced by the human resource team with respect to employment, discrimination, compensation, safety, privacy, performance appraisal etc. the organization needs to handle all these issues efficiently to ensure smooth running of the business. Companies can take laws & regulatory framework as their guidance to eliminate all these issues. As law treats everyone equally, it can be ensured that justice has been given to everyone.
