1. Based on your independent research online, what do you think of the explanation the podcast provides for why the gender pay gap exists?
2. Assuming for a moment that the explanation in the podcast is correct, what policies could be put into place by society, governments, and businesses to solve the gender pay gap?
3. What are the moral issues involved with a gender pay gap? Why is this an ethical issue?

Research study have effectively elucidated that women are less likely to negotiate their salary better than men due to lack of confidence and guidance. Furthermore Harvard Business Review article says that the problem may have more to do with how women are treated when they negotiate rather than their general confidence or skills at negotiation a trend which has been termed as the social cost of negotiation.
Employer unfairness is also to be held responsible for women’s lower salaries. A recent Glass door study has effectively been able to enumerate that when men and women with similar work experience and education levels work at the same company with identical job title women on an average were still paid less.
Despite federal law requiring men and women to be paid equally for identical work researchers have found that men made 5% more in base pay than female counterparts and 7% more in overall compensation. This pay divergence may be as a consequence of widespread bias against women in the workplace along with general undervaluation of women’s work.

Organizations seeking to effectively address pay inequities needs to efficiently initiate with a pay equity process which comprises of consistent monitoring, vigorous statistical analysis and providing administrators with pay information thus accordingly implementing effectual remedial measures.
Furthermore to effectively address the gender pay gap at the organizational level business need to establish efficient policies and programs concerning recruiting, retaining and promoting women. Government and civil society should support women in entering and growing their careers mainly in non-traditional high paying jobs.
It necessitates for removing social barriers for women and supporting education which indeed can facilitate creating meaningful social change which eventually can have a positive impact on business and economic growth. Generally equal pay and gender equality is regarded as an ongoing process that necessitates commitment, collaboration and willingness for improvement.

Gender wage gap indeed should effectively be regarded as social concern issue because it effectively provides evidence that we do not have a gender-equal society. Furthermore it just cannot be regarded as women’s issue bust also as a family and children’s issue as many families heavily rely on woman’s income and some can’t survive unless she makes a reasonable wage.
American Association of University Women (AAUW) recommends that women should pay attention to salaries related with occupations and think about the long-term financial repercussions of their career decisions. Furthermore they elucidate that women should do research on usual salaries for the job so that they can better negotiate for salary. These indeed could be regarded as ethical concerns because they deal with fundamental issues of fairness as those who do equal jobs eventually should be paid equally.
