Explanation / Answer

Usability - this is the meaure of the potential of a product to achieve the desired results by the user. In the terms of IT infrastructure, it is indicated towards the user interface like software applications and websites. Applications and websites are created for the people involved in technology to make their work simpler and technologically efficient but if an application or website is difficult to use or does not paas the parameters of the usability test then its purpose of being created does not fill. Hence certain testing methods are fixed and these applications and websites are tested on the utility parameters. If they are not found user friendly enough then changes are made to them based on the tests. Web developers and IT engineers are given the responsibility of the tests of usability of applications and websites before they are brought to use by general public. For example, it is important that the interface allows us to process the work efficiently. If an employee has the job of submitting several forms at a particular time, it will be easy for him if he is able to open the forms from one screen rather than opening several screens for them. So the application or website he is working on should possess this feature to fulfill the utility feature of the IT infrastructure.

Utility testing is a common practice that is followed by companies in their IT infrastructure. The functions of this testing that helps a company's information systems are that it helps in identifying the broken links, fixing issues related to errors on the page, rectifying language and content gaps created, indentifying and correcting the design layout which is not very effective and keeping a check on the errors faced by the users while using the site and rectifying them.
