1. In your estimation - what determines success in interpersonal communication? Provide an example to illustrate your answer.

2.What does it mean to say that the process of human perception is complicated? In what ways can you improve your perception skills?

3. Nonverbal codes are the means by which messages are sent and received. Describe with examples three nonverbal behaviors that can be classified as a code.

4. What does it mean to say that listening is more than just hearing? Explain some strategies that you can use to improve your listening.

Answer

1. Success of interpersonal communication can be determined by the response from the person involved in communication, his interest, and understanding of what other person is conveying to him. It depends on confidence, attitude and knowledge a person, and clear concept, clarity in communicate.

Example: when answering to the interview questions, candidate needs to have clarify of concept, confidence, positive attitude, and background knowledge about what he is making the the interviewer understand. If he succeeded he will be getting the prospective job.

2. Process of human perception is complicated: means that every individual have different views regarding a same thing, object, or a person. And this perception keeps on changing as per the situation, surrounding, and cognitive aspects.

Example: I always purchase handbags because they are my need, but my sister thinks it's waste of money.

3. Examples of nonverbal codes:

(1) tone of voice rising, when a person is angry, but he says he is not: this nonverbal behaviour describe that a person who is angry behaves in a way that convey clearly about his anger even though he is denying it through sound of voice.

(2)   nodding head while saying yes: in this example, nonverbal behaviour can be found when a person say yes by nodding his head.

(3) raising hand to answer a question in class: raising hand is a code that a student have an answer to the question asked by the teacher in class and want to give the answer.

4. Listening is focusing on what is been informed, spoken, to you, and something which is consciously choosen to do, it is intentional and deliberate , while hearing is simply is the act of simply perceiving the sound. It is unintentional and not deliberate.

Strategies to improve listening:

paying attention to the speaker, it is important to know what the speaker is saying and what is the message, for this attention must be given to the words, gestures.And maintainingeye-contact, to keep up the interest and to be attentive.

Listening without interrupting: it is important to let the other finish his point of you to have clarity and to have uninterrupted exchange of information.

Asking questions to clarify the doubts, this will help to understand the message in a way speaker want to convey.

It is also important to lay attention to "what is not said", because, nonverbal communication signs can be identified which help to know what the person really means, but it is ambiguous to frame any conclusion.
