Question
During the Explore phase of your career readiness plan, you get to research the potential companies that you hope to work for one day. It is important to do this, because although a company may look good on paper, it may not always be the right fit for you. Take a moment to examine the site Glassdoor, found at www.glassdoor.com. Type in a few companies that you have worked for, currently work for, or hope to work for one day, and read some of the reviews. Do you agree with what you found, or do you find that this new information alters how you see this organization? Please explain.
Explanation / Answer
Google is a dream workplace for many people. As interesting and colourful the life of Google employees sound, it is said that Google is also one of the most difficult workplaces due to the amount of work on employees. They offer great salaries which is compensated by the strenous work hours and pressure of keeping up with deadlines.
Taking a look at the reviews on Glassdoor, it is surprising to see the number of people that recommend it for the balance of personal and work life. Many previous employees do stress on deadlines(which exists everywhere), but it is not at the cost of your social life. They live by the adage that as long as their share of the work is complete, no one needs to be disturbed. Several employees reviewed that the most attractive thing is the growth and learning rate when at google. So if you strive to continuously grow and learn, then it seems to be the right place.
All the new found information does change a lot of preestablished views. It is favorable to see that google takes the extra step to help grow and learn. It also helps to know that the pressure is not always on one person to finish the work before the deadline, but people work as a team. The new information obtained by the reviews on Glassdoor definitely helps, to understand better if it is the right fit for a persons attitude and habits.
