Explanation / Answer

The motivating situation that I faced in my workplace was when I got an appreciation for my good work and overachieved targets in the annual meeting before all the staff, management and dignitaries present in the meeting. Though some employees were mentioned too for their hard work my topic was a detailed one and the manager had a whole list of jobs of the year which I handled individually and excelled in. This motivated me to work harder and dedicate myself to give my best to the company in the following year.

This may be categorised into the self-actualisation theory of Maslowhierarchicall needs. As with the apperciation that i recieved i got motivated to work more and prove myself even better. I want to use my potential for self actualization.

The demotivational situation in my office was when my manager gave our team a task which we had to complete in a week's time and further to this he went on a leave for the week and did not bother about the progress or update of the task for the whole week. This act of his really demotivated the team and no one worked with enthusiasm or efficiency but took the task very lightly due to which it could not complete in the given time span. This attitude if his demotivated the employees to work with dedication.

This situation would fall under the social needs of the Hierarchical needs theory of Maslow. As the manager should have been present with his team throughout the progress of the task and guide and motivate them at each level. This would increase the social interaction and cooperation within the group. Unity and belongingness built up by the manager would motivate all to work better.
