SW4381 company has set up a weighted scoring matrix for evaluation of potential projects. Below are three projects under consideration.

a.   Using the scoring matrix below, which project would you rate highest? Lowest?

b.   If the weight for “Minimize Risk” is changed from 10 to 5, will the project selection change?

c.    What are the three highest weighted project scores with this new weight?

Explanation / Answer

a)As weights are given for each criteria, to determine the highest and lowest project , we can consider the weights multiplied with the score to get the final value for each project.

hence

project1-9*10+4*3+9*1+2*0+10*2+8*10=211

project 2-9*4+4*8+9*8+2*0+10*4+8*8=244

project3-9*3+4*4+9*6+2*3+10*5+8*6=201

project4-9*8+4*6+9*5+2*5+10*6+8*4=238

hence the highest rated project is project is project 2 and lowest rated project is project 3

b) As we are changing the weight of minimize risk for all the projects , hence the decrease of weight for each project would be same for each project and therefore project selection will not change.

proof- After weight change , final scores are project1-201 project2-224 project3-176 project4-208. selection remains same(calculate by keeping 5 as weight for minimize risk)

c)As there is no change , project 2,project4 and project1 are three highest rated projects accordingly
