Persuasive Communication Letter

apply your persuasive communication skills for business communication. In this letter I want you to persuade me that you have actually learned something about communication. With that said here is what I want you to prepare for me in memorandum form. This should ideally be a situation either here in class or at work where you feel you probably could have handled the communication in a less emotional manner and communicated differently to make your point.

1) The scenario - who were the players (participants). - You can use first names or make up names to ensure privacy.

2) What was the issue? What were your emotions during the communication?

3) Was this a virtual or face to face communication? Do you feel this made a different in how you chose to respond?

4) What did you not do that knowing what you do know about the importance of professionalism that you would do now? Why?

5) How has this reflection helped you grow as professional in the workplace and individually?

Look forward to reading this memorandum. It needs to be thoughtful, detailed and honest. Sometimes we need to look at our approaches when we respond when we are angry or frustrated with a situation. Approach and use of appropriate language are important as you never know where that person may show up in your career later on or if you may need them to help you navigate a situation or issue. Also, don't take liberties when in a virtual environment when most tend to have more "courage" to be rude and inappropriate because they can not "see" the person on the other end. You are not as anonymous as you think so be mindful.

Subject: Express my regret over the incident involving emotional communication

After analyzing yesterday’s incident involving me and Tom where we had involved in argument regarding our opinions on the feasibility of the recent process changes, I came to the conclusion that I was more emotional during the conversation which made me behave in a way that does not suit the employee of a business organization. I never intended to act in such way but the situations made me to react like that. When Tom interrupted me while explaining my side and stated my explanations as foolish arguments I felt insulted and I could not control my emotions. When somebody insults us during face to face communication in front of other colleagues the emotions go out of control.

I understand the importance of controlling emotions in workplace during business communications and regret my act of shouting on Tom during the incident. Business communication should be handled very carefully and there is no room for emotions in workplace. I should have tried to convince Tom without arguing and discuss effectively to sort out the differences. Each and every employee should adhere to the regulations regarding workplace communication to ensure a friendly atmosphere where employees can work without any interference. Our act might have affected other employees in the floor. The employees should use only formal language in the workplace and should not abuse each other which will affect organization’s culture. Proper communication is essential for ensuring better bonding between the team members. I would not repeat those mistakes again as I have understood the bad effects of wrong communication on organization’s reputation and employee performance.

The decision to adhere to the communication standards would help to handle much complicated issues that may arise in future career and manage conflicts effectively to find better solutions. It will also ensure good team work and better collaboration among the team members which is essential for achieving the goals set by the organization.
