8. Research information about PMP and CAPM certifications. Find at least two articles on this topic. What are benefits of certification in general? Do you think it is worthwhile for most project managers to get certified? Is it something you would consider? Write a paper sum-marizing your findings and opinions.

9. Review PMI’s Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct. Find and summarize two articles related to ethics in project management.

page 76

1. Summarize the three-sphere model for systems management in your own words. Then use your own project experience or interview someone who recently completed an IT project, and list several business, technology, and organizational issues addressed during the proj - ect. Which issues were most important to the project, and why? Summarize your answers in a short paper or presentation.

2. Apply the four frames of organizations to a possible project that involves the development of a new technology like mobile banking, online retail, or social media. Work with two other class members in a virtual environment on this exercise. Write a short paper or presenta - tion that summarizes your analysis and opinions of how working virtually helped or hindered your results.

1. Study the WBS and Gantt charts provided in Figures 3-3 and 3-4. Enter the WBS into Project 2013, indenting tasks as shown to create the WBS hierarchy. Do not enter durations or dependencies. Print the resulting Gantt chart. See the scope management section of Appendix A for help using Project 2013.

2. Research a project management method, such as PRINCE2, Agile, RUP, or Six Sigma, and how organizations use it, citing at least two references. Why do you think organizations spend time and money tailoring a methodology to their environment? Write a summary of your findings and your opinion on the topic.

page 177-179

1. Write a short paper based on the chapter’s opening case. Answer the following questions: a. What do you think the real problem was in this case? b. Does the case present a realistic scenario? Why or why not? c. Was Nick Carson a good project manager? Why or why not? d. What should top management have done to help Nick? e. What could Nick have done to be a better project manager?

4. Perform a financial analysis for a project using the format provided in Figure 4-5. Assume that the projected costs and benefits for this project are spread over four years as fol - lows: Estimated costs are $200,000 in Year 1 and $30,000 each year in Years 2, 3, and 4. Estimated benefits are $0 in Year 1 and $100,000 each year in Years 2, 3, and 4. Use a 9 percent discount rate, and round the discount factors to two decimal places. Create a spreadsheet or use the business case financials template on the companion website to cal - culate and clearly display the NPV, ROI, and year in which payback occurs. In addition, write a paragraph explaining whether you would recommend investing in this project, based on your financial analysis.

1. You are working on a project to develop a new or enhanced system to help people at your college, university, or organization to find jobs. The system must be tailored to your student or work population and be very easy to use. Write a short paper describing how you would collect requirements for this system, and include at least five requirements in a requirements traceability matrix.

3. Use MindView Business software to develop a WBS in chart form by creating a new file or map in Top Down view............

page 256-216

1. Using Figure 6-2, enter the activities, their durations (in days), and their relationships in Proj - ect 2013. Use a project start date of August 3, 2016. View the network diagram. Does it look like Figure 6-4? Print the network diagram on one page. Return to the Gantt chart view. Click View on the menu bar, select Table: Entry, and then click Schedule to re-create Table 6-1. You may need to move the split bar to the right to reveal all of the table columns. (See Ap - pendix A for detailed information on using Project 2013.) Write a few paragraphs explaining what the network diagram and schedule table show about Project X’s schedule.

9. Review two different articles about critical chain scheduling. Write a short paper describing how this technique can help improve project schedule management.

page 294-295

1. Given the following information for a one-year project, answer the following questions. Recall that PV is the planned value, EV is the earned value, AC is the actual cost, and BAC is the budget at completion.PV = $23,000EV = $20,000AC = $25,000BAC = $120,000a. What is the cost variance, schedule variance, cost performance index (CPI), and schedule performance index (SPI) for the project?b. How is the project doing? Is it ahead of schedule or behind schedule? Is it under budget or over budget?c. Use the CPI to calculate the estimate at completion (EAC) for this project. Is the project performing better or worse than planned?d. Use the SPI to estimate how long it will take to finish this project.e. Sketch the earned value chart for this project, using Figure 7-5 as a guide.

5. Create a spreadsheet to calculate your projected total costs, total revenues, and total profits for giving a seminar on cost estimating. Make the following assumptions: • You will charge $600 per person for a two-day class.• You estimate that 30 people will attend the class, but you want to change this input.• Your fixed costs include $500 total to rent a room for both days, setup fees of $400 for registration, and $300 for designing a postcard for advertising.........

1. Suppose your college or organization is considering a project to develop an information sys - tem that would allow all employees, students, and customers to access and maintain their own human resources information, such as address, marital status, and tax information. The main benefits of the system would be a reduction in human resources personnel and more accurate information. For example, if an employee, student, or customer had a new tele - phone number or e-mail address, he or she would be responsible for entering the data in the new system. The new system would also allow employees to change their tax withholdings or pension plan contributions. Identify five potential risks for this new project, and be sure to list some negative and positive risks. Provide a detailed description of each risk and propose strategies for addressing each risk. Document your results in a short paper.

4. Suppose that your organization is deciding which of four projects to bid on, as summarized in the following table. Assume that all up-front investments are not recovered, so they are shown as negative profits. Draw a diagram and calculate the EMV for each project. Write a few paragraphs explaining which projects you would bid on. Be sure to use the EMV infor - mation and your personal risk tolerance to justify your answer.

I would really appreciate, if you could send me the right solutions for questions.

Best regards

8. CAPM stands for Certified Associate in Project Management. It is an asset that distinguishes someone in the job market and will enhance your effectiveness and your credibility. Anyone who is working on large scale projects or has more responsibility or to add project management skills into his/her current role can take this certification. Benefits of CAPM includes career incentives, increase in salary, personal growth, expected job profiles, opportunities around the world etc. Any person or project manager if works on large scale projects, then it is advisable to do this certification. By large scale projects, we mean that the projects which have a million-plus budget. I would consider for this as I'd like to become a project manager at some point in my life and would like to work on projects which have high budgets. So taking the certification would definitely help me in my journey as it would help me in my projects, as well as in my finance too.

9. PMI's code of ethics and profession conduct is based on 4 principles, honesty, responsibility, respect and fairness. These are the values that drive ethical conduct for the project management profession.

Honesty - This code of PMI's code of ethics and professional conduct describes the expectations that we have for ourselves and others who are in the project management team or community.

Responsibility - This code of PMI's code of ethics and professional conduct tells us to take ownership for the decisions that we make, and subsequently take responsibility for the results as well.

Respect - This code tells us to respect everyone who is on the team, and also to respect every kind of resource which you have been provided with, may it be a person or money or safety etc

Fairness - This code tells us to make decisions impartially and objectively i.e free from self-interest and ego.

1. 3-Sphere Model

This model deals with issues related to a project which should be defined and considered in order to manage projects successfully and effectively. The model deals with business, organization and technological aspects or issues of a project.
The 3 sphere model comes in play as we have to lay down all the challenges related to the project. The technological sphere should state proper hardware and software issues to be resolved. The organization sphere should includes matters involving stakeholders. The business sphere should supplement an answer to business goals.

Consider an example of a project in which we have to make a website. So these could be the issues which one may find when working on the project

Business Issues

1. Would the website be responsive and scalable ?
2. How much will the project cost?

Technological Issues

1. Which platform to choose for hosting the website?
2. What language to use for frontend and backend ?
3. What database should we use ?

Organization Issues

1. Do we have enough resource to complete the project in time ?

The most important issue to the project was that do we have enough resource to complete the project in time. This is because if a project deadline is not met, it is not good for your reputation and for resputation of the company in the market. So it becomes very important to complete projects in time or well advanced in time to keep a positive image of the comapny who is working on the project as well as the members who are included in the project.

2. Four Frames of Orgranizations

It is important to have an understanding of four frames of organizations. The frames help to conceptualize different approached to an issue. Let say we have 3-4 approaches to a problem, but this does not mean that all the approaches are equally equal at all points in time. What this means is that approach one may be good in one scenario while approach two is good in another scenario.

The four frames are

1. Structural
2. Human Resource
3. Political
4. Symbolic

Structual Frame is the frame which focuses on the architecture of the organization. This includes goals, roles, relationships, cordination between them.

Human Resource Frame is the frame which focuses on understanding people and the relationship between them. This frame helps us to understand the fit between the organization and the individual.

Political Frame is the frame in which the organization is seen as jungle. What this means is that there are number of people in an organization, from different areas, different religions, etc and all have their own agenda. They do bargains, negotiations and all. So who should get what power and how is answered by this frame?

Symbolic Frame is the frame in which the organizational life is treated as a drama, and orgranizations are treated as theater, temples or carnivals. The frame focuses on faith and meaning of the people who work in the organizartion. People should feel as if they are doing work for themselves and not just for the company.

Now let say we are developing mobile banking, so these four frames will definitely help us achieve our goal. THe Structural framw will take care of the part as whether the structutal unit is according to the work environment or not. The human resouce frame will invovle people who are part of development and marketing team of the product. IT would focus on the relationship that people have who are working on the application, whether they perfom good in a team or not. Political Frame will help us decide on who to give power to in the form of project manager, team leader etc. The symbolic frame will take care of the fact that the all the people who are involved in the project are working for a better product by making it their own rather than thinking it as for product of the company only.
