Self-assessment #2: Myers-Briggs assessment http://www.humanmetrics.com/personality 1. Do you agree with your overall classification after completing the Myers-Briggs? Are there behaviors that you see in yourself that fit your Myers-Briggs classification? 2. The textbook gives a positive spin to all of the classifications so identify potential problems or concerns someone with your classification might have in relation to being a leader in an organization. 3. What do you feel the best leader profile would be (even if it’s not yours) Why? What types of people (using the MBTI classifications as a base) do you feel you’d have the hardest time managing/leading? Explain. ( answer in 500 words )
Explanation / Answer
1. As far as the classification is concerned the 16-different personality type is beautifully depicted in Myer's Brigg indicator, but the way this classification is done based on some questions is not proper, according to me. An instinct based answer can't define my personality. This is the reason that the classification that I got for me doesn’t seem to be a correct one. Often, I find myself, shared in between, two or more type of classifications. This is something that Myer’s Brigg indicator doesn’t take care of.
I am an INTJ as per the indicator. But generally, I find myself shared between INTJ and ENTJ. I am an introvert with self-inspection but when it comes to working in a group or I feel I need to get in touch with people I switch between ENTJ and INTJ. I get in touch with people pretty easily and get things done from others.
2. I am an introvert, so don't usually approach every people I wish to talk, which is bad as I go up the corporate ladder. I am trying to improve on that. Although If I feel the need to talking to a person whom I believe can add some value to my organization, I’d be the first one to approach him/her. Also, judgement doesn’t provide a solution always, as a leader one needs to trust his/her instinct and take a decision after consulting with a few important members. Because firstly I can do all the work myself, secondly people beneath me needs to learn hands-on
3. A leader needs to communicate a lot, get along with others. In other words, a leader needs to sell himself a lot in order to good in other's perception, get business for the organization and answer to everybody in the organization. Self-proclamation is often necessary for marketing the product or the company. According to me ENTJ suits the purpose quite well. A person with this kind of personality is an out spoken extrovert, intuition based, judgement dependent and a though leader. Apart from that he/she should have the qualities pertaining to other four dominant functions because as mentioned earlier a person shouldn’t be a core introvert, always, overall he, at a leader position, needs to deal with a lot of people ,superior to or inferior to him. And being a combination of both provides an edge over your competitors.
