Question

Selections for the following circuit:
a. The ideal ratio CT based on the 5 amp secondary
b. The proper ratio ct served from the table 4.

ct=1000:5
delta=23kv
star=230kv
Icl=2000A

table 4
ct ratio                                    turns
50:5                                       10
100:5                                     20
200:5                                     40
400:5                                     80
800:5                                     160
1000:5                                   200
2000:5                                   400
2500:5                                   500
3000:5                                   600

Explanation / Answer

In delta configuration we have 3 times more voltage than in star, so in order to obtain required. In case of given current transformer, we can calculate appropriate ratio as follows:

input current =2000A

secondary required current=5

since I1/I2=N2/N1

=>turn ratio required=N1/N2=2000/5=400

So from table ct ratio of 2000:5 should be used.
