Q2: Using your own words, Explain how could companies apply “Raise Barriers to Entry” concept to discourage or delay other companies from entering the market.

Q3: What is the basic difference between direct and sequential memory access? Elaborate two basic points for each type of memory access. Give one example for each type as well

Explanation / Answer

Q1.

1)Innovation-Information systems can be used by organisations to automate their business process. And nowadays everyone is connected to mobiles, laptops through internet,so there are a lot of opportunities to co-create with customers, external partners and internal people.Combinational Innovation is the best example as internet and telecommunications together provide better capabilities and opportunities for innovation.Information system can be used for digital modelling and simulation of product design which would effectively reduce time and cost to market.Examples can be simulators which would test the design and working.

2)Different from others- Organisations can use information systems for live chatting or social media for the better understanding of customer's problems. It can be used to offer different and value added services to improve customer's stickness to the browser. It can also be used for more systematic and more accurate ways of measuring efficiency and effectiveness of advertising.Example-Getting continuous feedback from customers efficiently can improve the business of organisation.

3)Strategic alliance-Information Technology can be used  to create and enhance relations with partners via applications, such as developing virtual organizations and inter-organizational information systems.Eg-Online meetings and discussing problems as soon as detected with the help of Information technology can improve business.

4)Growth-Information technology can be used to expand business domesticaly and internationally.Information technology can also be used for integrating into other products and different mergers. For eg-Using IT for global operation and advertising of product will result in grown of a business.

5)Cost Leadership-IT can be used to vary the cost of doing business(up or down) and reuce the costs of customers or suppliers by using business to business models. For eg-product can be reached direct to consumers which will reduce the cost.

Q2) "Raise Barriers to Entry" basically means the factors raised to prevent the a startup into entering a particular market. Now these barriers can either be deliberate or intentional.Delibrate as high spending on advertising by older organisations makes it very expensive for new firms to enter the market and innocent as the dominating company’s absolute cost advantage. Now, these barriers are faced by other companies while entering the market. There can be various barriers, for eg-government barriers for government regulated companies. The main barrier would be brand identity and customer loyalty.People buy products with brand name.Other barriers can be switching costs, product differentiation.

Q3)The basic difference between direct and sequential memory access is that in direct we can access randomly anytime anywhere but in sequential we have to go step by step. For example-suppose there is a row numbered from 1-5(1,2,3,4,5),so in direct access we can access 4 directly but in case of sequential we have to go through 1,2,3 then only we can access 4.

The other basic difference would be the cost of sequential access being more than direct and user has to go through all the preceeding elements and then reach the destination.

However, sequential access can be useful too as if a user goes through all the preceeding elements then it can be easier to explain the next or understand the next element. For example-In a thriller book of 200 pages user can go to 199 page with direct access and read the ending but reading the whole book sequentially and systematicay would be more useful and fun.
