Textbook: Discovering computers 2016

1.Short response of this essay:For this topic I am split. I do believe that system manufacturers should be liable for breaches to some extent, but I also believe that they should not be responsible for security flaws. System manufacturers should be liable to a breach if the system manufacturer intentually left the software vulnerable to speed up the developing of the system. Additionally they should be held liable if they fail to improve their systems with monthly or bi-yearly updated to their systems. Same like apple is doing. With apple products, you receive and update request about every three month. If you read what the updates are mainly about, it’s usually related to enhancement of security to protect the consumers. On the other hand, we all should be aware of the safe usage of computers. You obviously don’t click on a link from your email that states I’ve won $1,000,000. Clearly these are scams and by clicking it you will allow the hacker to breach your computer software. So it all comes down to what the system manufacturer does to learn from previous breaches, and how they prevent the next breach from happening. Additionally the consumer is liable to operate the computer environment in a save practice. With both sides operating safely, no one would have to be liable.

2. Short response of this essay. I do not believe that internet service providers should have the capabilities to control customer's internet usage. Access to the internet was not created by the ISPs and it should not be restricted by them either. The taxpayers, in large part, paid for the infrastructure that paved the way for high speed internet access across the world. Internet service providers should simply charge customers the cost to access that open internet. I am a proponent of the government stepping in and improving net neutrality protections. I know that recently a large step was taken by the FCC to repeal net neutrality and it pushed back years of progress and gave corporations stronger profit incentives to restrict internet access in order to earn more profits. Service providers should be able to meet the demand that all customers pay for at any given time. I know there are plenty of instances in which customers might pay for 50/50 and only get 15/15 upload/download speeds. This type of mistreatment of customers should not be acceptable and should have consequences for these service providers. I find it hard to believe that during peak internet usage times the entire infrastructure cannot support the services that it has promised customers. And if that is the case, perhaps they should limit the services they offer so that they are as advertised.

Explanation / Answer

1- Main concern of this essay is that not only the system manufacturer is responsible for the security purposes also the end user is responsible for the security of the system and also manufacture can provide a defined layer of security and will be responsible for that only and the rest is depend on the end user of the system
