Question

Text for problems 1-3: Passengers are driven through the double curved road, shown in the Figure, at constant speed v. The double cl curve consists of two semicircles AB and BC, both with radius R. Passengers reported feeling sudden change Gump in sideways acceleration. (Sideways means normal to the direction of motion) (16 points) At which point did passengers feel change in sideways acceleration? (Check 1. only one box.) At points A and B only At points B and C only At points A and C only At points A, B and C

Explanation / Answer

The acceleration in curcular motion is given by v^2/R

1)The acceleration chagnes at all the three points ....at A the acclerationchanges from 0 to v^2/R

at B it chagnes from up to down

at C it chagnes to zero

so the correct option is D

2)

B)Twice larger at B than A

because the acceleration changes from up to down thus the jump is double .. from -v^2/R to v^2/R making the difference 2v^2/R

3)The magnitude is constant because v and R are constant
