The primary software used by the company is a proprietary point-of-sale (PoS) application running on a locally installed SQL server The company maintains its own website hosted by a national hosting company. You are hired to advise ACME Kitchens on what data storage design should be used for cloud storage. Research the following questions before making a recommendation specifically addressing ACME Kitchens' PoS application. 1. Selecting storage tenancy appropriate for data used by the ACME PoS application: Multi-tenant vs. Single Tenant data storage. 2. Identifying a security compliance certification required from the cloud storage provider to store data for PoS application. Explain your reasons. 3. In addition, what specific items related to data storage would you include in the SLA? Why? Post your recommendations supported by reliable references. Your recommendations should take into account specifics of ACME Kitchens PoS application data and its uses.Explanation / Answer
There is great concern of security everywhere because of data breach which takes place every other day. Internet which has given access to number of valuable information is the same medium of security threat as it gives access to data to outer world.
ACME Kitchens PoS application which is thinking of moving application online may also face security and theft issues when its tries to move to cloud. Large banks and so called secure websites have also dealt with issues. It is the risk which comes along the prospect of business growth, innovations, and ease of use.
Main concerns with application on cloud running
Though cloud has been in market from quite some time but it is still new business thus which cloud provider we will use and what are its credibility and integrity that determines how secure our data is and how effectively our application will work on their platform.
Network should be available all the time as disruption in network will lead to loss in sales and also reliability on company by customers.
Security and privacy of data is major concern, which depends on cloud providers. How strong is their security and privacy protocols and how hard it is to break them?Whether they have facility to check on data access by client which is relevant for them. This means putting a check on data depending on their requirement which can be accessed by an account user according to permissions.
Backup is the good pros in cloud computing but we must take into account that what are recovery policy and how effectively data can be procured back and protected from further threats by the cloud providers.
It reduces hardware cost as local hardware for storage will not be required with data being on cloud servers and also ease of use as users can log in and use information from anywhere without being physically available in office.
Issues when application is continued locally
Growth in business is effected largely as with cloud your products may get available and marketed online, which gives boost to business.
Security is concern here also but from the internal factors but not from unethical world of web.
We have a control on local server which comes to big help sometimes and also helps in securing data to greater extent but this requires local servers with storage which can be difficult to maintain locally.
As backup will be on local servers, so if the systems crashes due to malwares or viruses it will be difficult to restore the system back.
So depending on requirements we can say cloud computing is an good option but with the risk involved in data breach it is good to start with small section of transfer and then after correcting all the issues we can think of moving the bigger data move
