Question
Project Overview: Create an interactive application that will update at least a two-file database and demonstrate referential integrity. This application has to relate to a School Systems registration process. There will be two parts to this project – the wright up and the actual application. Part I The Write Up 1. Create at least a 300 word problem document of a problem a school system is having. This document will also have the request presented to you as an analyst/programmer to solve the problem. EX:: School registration, Keeping track of Grades, Building Maintenance, Tracking school inventory - etc etc etc. 2. A 300 word solution document on why you came up with your tables and fields in the database, why did you pick the programming language and describe the application to be written. You will need to show the tables and fields and how the tables relate to each other. 3. Have a 5 to 10 minute presentation on the above. To be presented to class and turned in as indicated in the syllabus. Use PowerPoint to assist. Part II The Application The following are Required aspects of the application. This again will be turned in as indicated in the syllabus and possibly presented to the class. 1) The application must be written in Visual Basic, C++, C#, JAVA, or PHP. 2) You will have at least a two-file database must have a one-to-many relationship (parent child) 3) The program must include options to add, delete, modify, and view rows for tables. Review rubrics for exact detail. 4) Your two-file database design must be in “best normal form” and must be approved by Mr. Lerch prior to writing your application. 5) Database integrity rules, including referential integrity, must be followed and included at the application level (as seen by requirements in the rubric). See the document titled “Maintaining Data Integrity. When Updating a Two-File One-to-Many Database”. 6) All interfaces, screens, forms should be attractive and easy to use 7) Your project code must be submitted to Mr. Lerch via Angel Dropbox. You are required to arrange a time for your project to be graded and you must be present during that process. Note the requirements and grading by the rubrics Comment NEED ZIP FILE
Explanation / Answer
Solution:
1) Part-1: Problem Statement Write-up
A school, although seeming a small entity, has a vast landscape. A school has many functions to manage in order to complete its day-to-day activities efficiently. Major functions to be managed are:
admission process,
student registration,
school administration,
school’s resources/assets management and maintenance,
school finance, accounting and payroll,
examination and evaluation process,
attendance tracking and management,
grades compilation and tracking,
results and report card publication,
classes scheduling and management,
teacher and other support staff management,
fee collection and tracking,
interaction with parents,
students’ transport management
Record keeping
....
etc.
Apart from these primary functions, there can be many more secondary or support functions that also need to be managed, as and when required.
From top, all these functions may look easy to be managed, but are often quite complex. Each individual function has its own inherent aspects and issues to be addressed so that it can be conducted and managed smoothly.
Just consider the admission process. This process is at the core of any school management. Efficient execution of this process depends on number of things. For example, timely announcement of admissions, admission schedule, admission enquiry handling, classes for which admission applications are sought, admission criteria specific to individual classes, admission procedure, details of class-wise available seats and fees, syllabus, examination pattern, evaluation process etc. in case of admission test, if any.
Most of the time, these admission related activities are performed manually. Same is applicable for other functions also. Manual management and conduction of all these functions impose many constraints and overheads on school management in terms of cost, time consumption, resources, communication and maintenance etc.
Hence, it is proposed to consult a System Analyst to study the pertaining issues with manual system in place at present with respect to above mentioned and other support functions, as applicable and suggest a comprehensive, robust, state-of-the-art technological solution to efficiently manage all the required and relevant functions in automated manner.
