Logic gates are used to manipulate logic data (binary data). Each logic gate has its own truth table. The truth table determines how the logic gate works.

Each truth table determines the inputs and output of the logic gates. One can have more than one input, but in most cases there is only one output.

The symbols 0 and 1 can be used to represent data. It may seem that we are saying that the computer is a device which has a special facility for manipulating lots of zeroes and ones. However, computers do not really contain groups of zeroes and ones; instead, they are filled with millions and millions of switches which are constantly being turned on and off in specific patterns. The values 0 and 1 are then physically represented in the computer by the off/on position of the switches. Logic gates are built from switches.

List three different logic gates. Describe the functionality of each one. Give a real life example where each can be used.

What are the advantages and disadvantage of logic gates compared to switches?

Three logic gates are given below:

1) NOT Gate: Not gate is basically a gate that provide invert value of the input, Suppose if you give 0 as input then you will get 1 as output. In real world NOT gate is used as inverter.

2) AND Gate: AND gate is basically a gate that give maximum output i.e 1 when all the inputs are maximum i.e 1. In real world AND gate is work as enabler gate i.e suppose if we want that if inputs are high then we can perfrom any then AND Gate is used. AND gate is denoted by dot symbol

3) OR Gate: OR gate is basically a gate that give maximum output i.e 1 when any one of the input is maximum i.e 1 OR gate is denoted by + symbol. In real world OR gate is used in cae of LED blink, suppose if any input is high led should blink.

Logic gates are very important as hole electronics semiconductors are based on logic gates.

Logic Gates comparision with switches:

Advantages:
1. Logic Gates are fast
2. Gates have less power consumption
3. IF we talk about size then gates are smaller in size

Disadvantages:

1. In case of switches current can flow between input and output.

2. In case of gates its not possible that current flow between input and output.
