This perceived inequity regarding the compensation will lead to cognitive dissonance which is a state of mental discomfort that occurs when a person’s attitudes, thoughts, or beliefs conflict. Under this condition, the junior employees will show one or more of the following three behaviors to gain an apparent fairness - they may put lesser effort in job to make it fairer with respect to the compensation, they may show disruptive behavior, steal, destroy resources, and damage company's reputation on the social media and finally they may add, remove, or modify a desired workplace behavior in a completely discretionary manner to gain the perceived fairness or to reduce the importance of the conflict generated out of this cognitive dissonance.
