Explanation / Answer

Q1) Iterations are shorter durations which represent development cycles in an Agile project. Below is why iterations are important in agile management -

1. As iterations are of fixed duration, the project deliverables are set as per the iterations

2. At the end of every iteration, the team releases a part of the product or software for review based on which the changes can be implemented.

Q2) Below are the pitfalls of longer and shorter iterations in a project -

1. Longer iterations result in longer time to deliver a part of the project which means a decent part of the project is completed by then. Any issues/bugs in the initial phase will be carried till the end of iteration. This creates a lot of rework as the issues go unnoticed for the entire duration.

2. Shorter durations result in rushing through the deadlines to deliver a product or part of project which might be low on quality or substandard due to the time constraint. This results in reworking on the project to ensure quality is maintained and managed.
