1Do you think employees, working part-time, should receive unemployment benefits?

I do think employees who are working part-time should receive unemployment benefits only if they are working part-time as a result of them losing full-time due to layoffs. An employee losing their full-time job and being forced to work a part-time job is detrimental to anyone. Unemployment for six months will allow individuals the time they need to regroup without interfering with their physiological well-being harshly. In my opinion, this would only apply to this type of situation.

2. Secondly, state whether or not you agree or disagree with the premise of work-sharing programs.

I agree with the concept of work sharing. Work sharing helps employers stay honest with their employees. Work sharing will grant employees the security of knowing they cannot be laid off by their employer at an unexpected time. Also during the time hours are cut, employees will still receive employee benefits.

3.If you are against them, defend your rationale. If you are in favor of them, how did you reach this decision? If you are in favor of such a program, from a policy perspective, do you believe all states should universally participate in this type of program?

There are a lot of benefits that support work sharing. For starters, transparency within the organization will increase because of the trust built between the employer and employee. Also, with many work-sharing programs, once work sharing has ended, employees can collect prorated pay during the time. Work sharing is a compromise organization should make to ensure all of their valuable employees remain protected. Increasing organizational communication efficiently through these techniques will strengthen the physiological contract between employee and employer and most likely decrease job insecurity within organizations. This theory makes sense. Employers do not seem interested in their employee’s mental health. By implementing work sharing, an organization an essentially set themselves apart from the crowd. From a policy prospective, I do not believe all states should participate in this type of program. Organizations themselves should be in control of this program if they decide to implement it.

Explanation / Answer

I fully agree with answers 2 & 3. Work sharing is an important concept so as to have maximum people have work and get the share. In this, two employees are retained on part time basis with reduced time which is otherwise fulfilled by one. It also fosters team culture as individuals work together on same job. It increases cohesion between members. Most importantly, it overcomes the fear of job loss which can be very traumatic for people.

All states should universally participate so that people all across can feel safe and work in tandem. It will promote goodwill and serve humanity in long run.
