One of the tallest living women of 173 cm and a standard deviation of 4 cm. Heights of women have a mean of 163 cm and a standard deviation of 6cm. Relative to the population of the same gender, who is taller? Justify reasoning

Explanation / Answer

Hi, please don't post assignement questions. I have to answer questions individually.

2)

Mean Men = 173, stdev =4
Mean Women = 163, stdev = 6

Highest men height =218
Highest women height = 210

It appears that the tallest man is taller than tallest women at 218 cm vs. 210 cm. But we normalize both and check w.r.t gender.

So, normalizing:
Z of tallest men = (218-173)/4 = 11.25
Z of tallest women = (210-163)/6 = 7.833

Since Z score of tallest man is much higher than Z score of tallest woman we conclude that Tallest Man is taller even w.r.t to his gender
