Explanation / Answer

Dear,

Smooth running of the project it is vital to share informationamong the project members through both formal and informalcommunication channels.

A software development project consists of four inter-relatedcomponents:

Participant A person participating in a project in a certainrole (e.g., project member, client, user, etc.).

Task The work to be performed by a project participant.

Work product An item (also called an artifact) produced by atask (e.g., models, documents, code, etc.).

Schedule The organization of tasks according to the time whenthey should start and end. A schedule often also specifies who(i.e., what role) should carry out a task.

An important part of any project organization is to define therelationships among the participants and between the participantsand the tasks, work products and schedule. In a team-basedorganization, the participants are grouped into teams, where a teamis a small set of participants working on the same task. Unless ateam is very large, there is normally no redundancy of effort amongteam members. Therefore, the entire team depends on the punctualdelivery of each team member’s contribution to successfullycomplete a task/work product.

One of the most important roles in a project is that of projectmanager/team leader. A project manager/team leader has to be ableto combine technical skills with managerial skills, both task- andpeople-oriented. Some of the responsibilities of a projectmanager/team leader may include:

• giving vision (i.e., motivation) to theproject/team;

• assessing project/team members’strengths/weaknesses;

• planning the project/team work and dividing the workamong project/team members;

• setting project/team meeting agendas;

• tracking project/team progress;

• reallocating tasks/resources among project/teammembers;

• resolving both technical conflicts and personalityconflicts among project/team members;

• encouraging project/team members (i.e., maintainingproject/team spirit).

To facilitate the smooth running and management of a project,there are certain guidelines that project/team leaders shouldfollow:

1. Avoid compromising the team’s objective with politicalissues.

2. Exhibit personal commitment to the team’s goal.

3. Do not dilute the team’s efforts with too manypriorities.

4. Be fair and impartial toward all team members.

5. Be willing to confront and resolve issues associated withinadequate performance by team members.

6. Be open to new ideas and information from team members.

Similarly, there are certain guidelines that team members shouldfollow:

1. Demonstrate a realistic understanding of your role andresponsibilities.

2. Demonstrate objective and fact-based judgments.

3. Collaborate effectively with other team members.

4. Make the team goal a higher priority than any personalobjective.

5. Demonstrate a willingness to devote whatever effort isnecessary to achieve team success.

6. Be willing to share information, perceptions and feedbackappropriately.

7. Provide help to other team members when needed andappropriate.

8. Demonstrate high standards of excellence.

9. Stand behind and support team decisions.

10. Demonstrate courage of conviction by directly confrontingimportant issues.

11. Demonstrate leadership in ways that contribute to theteam’s success.

12. Respond constructively to feedback from others.

I hope this will herlps you for project development.
