5. Create a Gantt chart to show the project timeline. Answer: Gantt Chart 10 15 20 Time Critical Activity Noncritical Activity SlackExplanation / Answer
To: The Dean, XYZ University
From: The Project Manager
Sub: Setting up a six months operations management course for the university
The Scope of the project includes planning the curriculum, faculty, assignments, and the review the content of the Six Month course in operations management.
Since we are already in the last week of March and we have to launch the course for the September admissions for the course starting on October 1, 2018. The timeline for us is 18.5 weeks maximum.
The activities which are critical for the establishing the timeline of the project are as follows:
The activities which are critical and noncritical are as follows:
Critical Tasks are as follows:
A.Selecting the test books
B.Creating unit assignments
C.Reviewing the content.
The execution of task B is dependent on completion of task A in the indicated timeline of 6 to 10 weeks maximum
The noncritical Tasks are as follows:
A.Selecting topics
B.Setting upgrade books
These two tasks are also dependent on finalizing the book and creating the assignments.
The grading system can be handled later as it has no direct impact on finalizing the course curriculum, assignments etc.
Delay and Consequences of delay:
The delay in finalizing the critical tasks and even a delay of 1 week can result in the delay in the launching of the course by 6 months i.e. deferring it to March 2019.
Further, the faculty finalization is critical as they have to define the course curriculum and start the admission processes now to onboard the students in October 2018.
Delay in launching the course will cost organization the fee of 40 plus students already enrolled and a bad name to the university.
The solution for a quick launch of the course and reduce time lags is as follows:
All the above will reduce the cost and maximize utilization of existing resources.
I look forward to your approval and suggestions to make the launch of the course successful.
