What criteria will you use in making layoff decisions? 2. How will you communicate layoff decisions to the individual employees and within the company as a whole? 3. How will you motivate employees who remain with the company?

Explanation / Answer

1. The criteria in laying off is very simple and as performance is the only indicator in this aspect therefore the employees with the lowest rating need to be laid off and if we need to lay off three employees, then deciding on the first two is easy because 2 employees have received rating as 2 Winfrey Jones and Kelly Andrews and they are getting laid off for sure and the other who will be laid off will be Jeff Spirits, although he has achieved 1 percent more than what was expected from him but still his performance was not up to the mark and as he and Deb Waters both has received rating as 3 we are still laying off Jeff because Deb is just 1 year old in the organization and deserves a chance and there is no manager except him so he will not be laid off.

2. The process of lay off will be very much confidential and the decision will be communicated only to the individuals who are laid off and not anybody else because such information may have negative impact on others, hence confidentiality needs to be maintained.

3. The employees who are retained needs to be motivated by saying that the organization relies and banks on them and they need to understand that they are valued in the organization and if they work hard and cooperate then the organization will again restore the lost position and succeed in the industry as an organization. They need to utilize the opportunity by showcasing they talent and hard work so that the management is convinced that they have not taken a bad decision retaining them.
