A TSH test did show an increase in output of thyroid hormones from the thyroid gland. Biopsy results: Leukocytes 5000 per mieroliter of blood Plasma concentrations of T4 and T3: T4 Total Free 2 ug/dL 0.1 ng/dL 0.20 ng/dL 0.01 ng/dl 1. How do her levels of T3 and T4 compare to normal? 2. What do her levels of TSH reveal about the function of her anterior pituitary? 3. What do her levels of TSH reveal about the function about her thyroid glands? 4. Diagram the feedback loop involved. 5. Why does she have a lower-than-normal body temperature? 6. What is the most likely explanation for the slow heart rate and low blood pressure? 7. What hormones would restore heart rate and blood pressure to normal? 8. Describe a suitable treatment for her? 9. Is this treatment expected to return blood pressure and heart rate to normal? Why or why not? 10. What is the name of this disorder?Explanation / Answer
1. when compared to the normal T3 value which is 4-12ug/dl and for T4 which is 75-195ug/dl , the tested values are very low.
2. the increased TSH value explains that her anterior gland is yes functioning
3.the increased TSH value explains the result as disfunctioning of the thyroid gland.
5.the reason for lower body temperature is the disfunctioning of the thyroid gland itself.
6. as we know the heart rate is controlled by the thyroid hormones, because of the low levels of T3 and T4, the haert rate and the blood pressure is low.
7. the hormone EPI will work immeditaely at that time but the solution is not long lasting.
8. the treatment includes the use of T4 capsules so as to increase the levels of T4.
9. the treatment is expected to return after a certain stage , as at early daignosis the treatment can be said as curable but at later stages because the body is not able to produce the hormones , it can not be curable. And since the paitent symptoms showed early stages so the t4 capsules intake can be beneficial.
10. the disease in this case is Primary Hypothyroidism.
