Question

A 39-year-old female was involved in a bus crash. On scene she was unconscious with cuts on her arms, face, and scalp. She gained consciousness on the way to the hospital and was agitated and combative. Paramedics observed muscle weakness in her right hand with a near complete paralysis of the right upper extremity and a partial paralysis of the right lower extremity. A head CT revealed an acute subdural hematoma and an extensive subarachnoid hemorrhage. Doctors noted she could follow commands, but had difficulty speaking in complete sentences. Surgery to remove the clots was performed immediately and significant improvement was seen two weeks later in follow-up appointments.
