The movements of the eyes are controlled by the extraocular muscles , which are controlled by three nerves , namely occulomotor , trochlear and the abducens nerve .

Impairment in the occulomotor nerve will cause the eye to move downwards and out .

Impairment in the trochlear nerve will shift the gaze upward .

Impairment in the abducens will cause the gaze to shift towards the middle .This is the case.
