Question

Biology 352 Activity Section 3 Spring 2018 5) Imagine 100 AaBbCc cells in the F1 generation undergoing meiosis. For this example, there is a between B 20% chance of crossover between genes A and B. There isa 10% chance of crossover and C. These two crossover events are independent events a. What percentage of cells in meiosis do you predict will undergo two crossovers: one between AB and one between BC? List all 8 kinds of haploid gametes that could be produced by the triple heterozy gote AaBbCs Which two would derive from meiotic events in which there was no recombination? These will be the most common gametes. b. Which two kinds of gametes derive from the detectable double crossover event? These will be the rarest. c. d. What gametes would be produced from the recessive individual aabbee?

Explanation / Answer

a) As, it is mentioned it is the F1 generation, we could consider the individual, for these set of genes as, ABCllabc. The percentage of dounle of cross-over will be 2%.

b) The set of haploid gametes will be ABC, ABc, AbC, Abc, aBC, aBc, abC, abc. Among these ABC and abc are the gametes which have been derived without recombination, since it is mentioned it is the F1 generation. These (ABC and abc) will be the most common gametes.

c) The gametes which will be produced by the double cross-over are AbC and aBc.

d) The gametes which will be produced from the reecessive individual allele will both be abc.
