Outline some of the research findings on the outcome for adopted children discussed in the text.In sum, explain to your friends how much effect you think they (the child gene) might have on the child,s developmental trajectory.Would you advise the adoption..? Why or why not
Explanation / Answer
Adoption is a process where a child leaves his biological parents and come to the new environment. It depends upon the age of the child adopted if a baby is a few months old or a very young. The child who has no remembrance of his biological parents the upbringing can mold him according to the environment, but a child who remembers his parents and environments the upbringing becomes difficult.
It is nature versus nurture. Gene is nature everybody is born with the gene. That is DNA. The DNA carries the characteristics of biological parents. The study further shows that the structure of the DNA cannot be changed, but the gene expression that is the way gene works can be changed by the environment.
The gene and surroundings play an important role in molding a person’s personality and behavior that is nurture. It has been said that human personality and behavior is developed in which the contribution of the gene is 50 % and the environment is 50%. It is a debatable issue. Thus the human personality is made of inherited and acquired. Inheritance is genetic or other biological factors and acquired is exposed to experience and learning.
The friend in question can go for adoption the difference will be in culture and values. As it is pointed out molding a very young child becomes easy, but to mold, a child who understands will become a little difficult.
Human mind made up of beliefs, intents, and desires. A child acquires his theory of mind by understanding his surrounding that consists of the parent's behavior (adopted or biological) friend circle and his own understanding and grasping a situation.
The point that is of concern is hereditary disorders; there are chances that an adopted child carries with him the disorder. It all depends upon the genetic character, but the upbringing of the child mainly depends upon his surrounding and his behavior will replicate his environment combined with genetic abilities.
