Giving Your Comment for following information I think there are a number of possibilities here. I can imagine that some people go to college/university to satisfy needs of social belonging, or needs of esteem, or the need of self- actualization. I don't believe it is necessary to go to college /university to satisfy the basic needs or safety needs, although perhaps some do. Most basic needs can be met without a degree and typically needs for safety are met by actions other than accomplishment. I know that when I went to university the first time, in 2004.I went to satisfy a blend of the first three I mentioned. I grew up on the East Coast. Everyone immediately goes from high school to a major university where I am from. I also come from a high accomplishing family. I did not even know not going to college was an option. I had no clue what I really wanted to do and spent my undergrad going through the motions. As a result I did not have much career direction when I graduated. Now that I am going back to school in preparation for grad school I know exactly what I want to do and can say this time am going specifically to meet the need of self-actualization. Im curious to know what needs others think they are meeting by pursuing an education

Although it’s true that education helps one refine one’s character, knowledge and skills, one can fulfill all the needs without the help of education because if one thinks that education can be limited to the University degrees. All these needs such as Biological, safety, belonging, esteem and self-actualization needs were fulfilled even without the help of University degrees long before Abraham Maslow defined his theory. Today, it’s out of getting a proper career prospect that people attend Universities, otherwise most people who are skilled labors and entrepreneurs who never attended Universities are still reaching even the highest level of needs, self-actualization.
