Question

1. Many people mistakenly believe that creativity is restricted to a few gifted, genius-level, artistic people. What would you tell someone who wants to be creative but does not believe he or she possesses an artistic temperament?

2. People vary in their IQ test scores, but about 68 percent of scores on tests such as the NVAIS-III are between 85 and 115, the range for normal intelligence. A friend comes to you and says, "Wouldn't it be great if we all had aboveaverage IQ scores? Just think how wonderful life would be and how happy and successful we'd be!" How might you enlighten your friend about IQ tests and IQ scores?

Explanation / Answer

1. Creativity is both about one's ability to be creative as well as one's disposition to be creative. Thinking disposition works on the premise that one needs to have both the ability as well as a desire to be creative. Absence of any one of these two will lead to low creativity. Hence, I will tell the person that if you are inclined to be creative but does not have creative skills in whichever area he/ she wants to be creative, while he/ she can put in efforts, they will take time to create something outstanding vs. those who are naturally creative. So to summarize, one can choose to be in a creative field but cannot simplye be creative sheerly with hard work. The skill and ability to be creative also needs to be equally strong. Also on the other hand, while it is beyond my control to be creative, one can definitely enhance one's peness to learn, change and experience. This will certainly lead to creative thinkign if not creativity.

2. I will tell the person that while intelligence talks about inherent grasping capacity and that ine can take more time to learn things than those who have a higher IQ than him/ her, it is also equally important how one uses own IQ to learn new concepts. If the IQ is high however not fully utilized, person will remain ordinary due to not having learnt new skills and concepts. On the other hand, those who have average intelligence but are putting in a lot of effort to learn concepts will be far richer in terms f their knowledge though they will take time to do it. So along with the IQ score, it is also a person's intent to work hard and if everyone starts working hard, life will be even more beautiful.
