When she opens the front door and prepares to walk down the front steps, Isabel goes through a ritual of pausing on each step for a certain length of time. Explanation / Answer

Isabel’s behaviour seems to hinting towards a diagnosis of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. Her repetitive actions of changing clothes and packing-repacking books, and her front steps rituals represent compulsions. Isabel has enough insight to admit the irrationality of these behaviours but feels drawn to perform them anyway. The compulsions are also time-consuming and causing impairment her academic pursuits.
