Explanation / Answer

Rods and cones are photoreceptor cells found in retina. These cells are involved in visual photo transduction. These cells convert electromagnetic energy in the light waves into signals that can stimulate biological processes.

Rods are more in number, about 120 million. Rods are more sensitive to light than the cones. Rods are responsible for vision at low light levels and therefore are involved in scotopic vision. They are not involved in color vision and have low spacial acuity.

Cones are less in number when compared to rod cells. They are involved in color vision. They are more concentrated in the region of fovea centralis.
