Apneustic center of respiration is present in the pons. It sends impulses to the dorsal respiratory group of neurons in medulla thereby stimulating inspiration. Therefore, the transection below the apneustic center results in irregular respiratory rhythm as the respiration is maintained with slight irregularity.
