Structures: pinna, external auditory canal and tympanic membrane or ear drum

Here the function of pinna and external auditory canal is to transmit the sound waves to the middle ear via vibrating the tympanic membrane which amplify sound waves.

Function of the outer ear: Hearing

Structures: 3 ear ossicles - Malleus, Incus and Stapes. Its also have opening for eustachian tube. Oval window and Round Window

Here on the inner portion of the eardrum which have attachment with the malleus, on another side Malleus attaches with the Incus, and Incus attaches with the Stapes. Stapes comes in conatct with the round window. The parts of the middle ear in series:

Ear drum - Malleus - Incus - Stapes - Oval window

So it transmit amplifiied sound waves from ear drum to the inner ear through oval window.

The eustachian tube connects middle ear cavity with the nasopharynx, which removes mucus from the middle ear and maintain atmosphearic pressure.

Function of the middle ear: Hearing

Structures: Cochlea, Vestibule and Semicircular Canals

when sound waves strikes the oval window, which is in contact with cochlea. Cochlea contains fluid, so here sound waves produce vibrations in the fluid of the Cochles. Cochlea have air cells- a sensory receptor becomes stimulated and via Cochler part of vestibulo cochlear nerve the signels reaches to the brain. It helps in hearing.

There are 3 semicircular canals which are filled with fluids. with the rotation and movement of the head, this fluid moves and according to this the signals goes to the brain via vestibuler part of the vestibulo- cochlear nerve. It helps in mainting equilibrium.
