Question
Read a May 29, 2018 article e about a U.S. Supreme Court decision not to hear an appeal from a U.S. appeals court. The appeals court upheld an Arkansas state law which makes it illegal for women to have abortions by taking a pill. Consider two quotes from the article and then respond to the 2 questions below the quotes: "Arkansas is now shamefully responsible for being the first state to ban medication abortion... This dangerous law also immediately ends access to safe, legal abortion at all but one health center in the state. . . This law cannot and must not stand. We will not stop fighting for every person's right to access safe, legal abortion."Dawn Laguens, executive vice president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America "This is very good news for people who care about the safety of women in Arkansas... This is a pro-life victory not only for the women of Arkansas, but for women across the nation. I'm sure other states will be looking at Arkansas and considering following our example." Jerry Cox, Family Council e Executive Director 1. Which of the two views expressed above do you agree with and why? 2. For whichever view you agree with, what ethical theory best supports your decision and why?Explanation / Answer
I agree with the view of executive director that pills are not safe and decision it is about safety of women itself. Though Abortion rights must be there for women but means of abortion should not be considered as right and needs to be decided by professional doctora keeping in view the safety and efficacy. However , if pills are banned , state should ensure that other legal measures to abort are available in public and private hospitals .
2)Deontological theories support my view as they focus on means and human duties and not only on goals. Goal here is women right yo abort but means to abort must also be vorrectcand safe for life of women.
