1. Nuclear fission produces heat and no carbon dioxide.
2. Catalytic converters contain expensive trace metals.
3. The stratosphere contains 1000 times less water and 1000 times more ozone than does the troposphere.
4. Ozone is produced photochemically in the troposphere and the stratosphere, but by different reactions.
5. Air temperature decreases with altitude up to approximately 18 km above the earth, and then it increases with altitude up to 50km.
Read Please before answer: Write one sentence that demonstrates how the basic concept of the statement can be used to explain, understand, or be applied to an environmental science phenomenon Nuclear fission produces heat and no carbon dioxide. Catalytic converters contain expensive trace metals. The stratosphere contains 1000 times less water and 1000 times more ozone than does the troposphere. Ozone is produced photochemically in the troposphere and the stratosphere, but by different reactions. Air temperature decreases with altitude up to approximately 18 km above the earth, and then it increases with altitude up to 50km.Explanation / Answer
1-As Nuclear fission produces no carbondioxide it cause no pollution associated with conventional thermal power plants using coal to produce heat.
2-These trace elements convert the three main pollutants in automobile exhaust: carbon monoxide, unburned hydrocarbon and oxides of nitrogen to undergo catalytic combustion and the last is reduced back to nitrogen.
3-This ozone layer help life protect from short UV rays that cause sunburn, direct DNA damage & skin cancers.
4-Tropospheric ozone is a pollutant & greenhouse gas but it help in removal of hydrocarbons & methane produced as air pollutant by humans.
5-Decreasing air temperature upto 18km help regulate water cycle while the air temperature in the stratosphere increasing with altitude help not to cause convection and has a stabilizing effect on atmospheric conditions in the region.
