Question
According to this bible verse Deuteronomy 6:1-7:
These are the commands, decrees and laws the Lord your God directed me to teach you to observe in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess, 2 so that you, your children and their children after them may fear the Lord your God as long as you live by keeping all his decrees and commands that I give you, and so that you may enjoy long life. 3 Hear, Israel, and be careful to obey so that it may go well with you and that you may increase greatly in a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the Lord, the God of your ancestors, promised you.
4 Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.[a] 5 Love the Lordyour God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.
How can you experience this in your home as a child?
How does this compare with your plans to raise your children?
What obstacles and objections might be encountered?
Explanation / Answer
My parents were not that religious but they kept reminding me about the values and legal issues that are present in our country. They were not bringing in the God issue at home but most of the time stuck to the universal laws of humanity. Today, more than religion, the moral, ethical and legal rules and regulations control the behaviors of people and religion is losing its significance at least in the individualistic, materialistic and consumer world of developed countries.
My children will grow without the influence of religion and God because they need to understand humans and humanity first and shouldn’t go for a God who is still a question mark. Besides, the God who talks is the God of Israel and they are very different from my present day society.
Religions were created by human and maintained as the institution that control people through written rules and regulations through their Holy Books. Most of the writings will seem as if God himself had spoken those words but in reality, they were written by humans in order to persuade people to obey them without any questions because religions survived by fearing people in the name of God. The world has come far away from religion with the advancement of science. Globalization has almost broken all the barriers where the importance of religion has come to an end. So, people do not go into the religion as they used to.
