Explanation / Answer
The movie 'Waiting for Superman" defines the inconvenient truth of American education system by five young students who strive hard to be accepted into the charter school. Geoffrey canada the narrator describes his journey as an educator in this film. The film attempts to examine the prevailing condition of American education system with the perspective of five young students & their families. All five students namely Anthony, Daisy,Francisco,Bianca, Emily & their parents feel that charter school is the best option available for them to get refuge from public school systems because of poor performing teachers. While in the case of Emily who struggles in math fears that being placed in lower academic track will limit her learning oppurtunities. Statistical comparisons are made between the different types of primary or secondary educational institutions available: state school, private school, and charter school. Since charter schools do not operate with the same restrictions as public institutions, they are depicted as having a more experimental approach to educating students.Since many charter schools are not large enough to accept all of their applicants, the selection of students is done by lottery. The film follows several families as they attempt to gain access to prominent charter schools for their children. Bill Gates, Michelle Rhee,Geoffrey Canada-the education reformeris one of the most prominent & key people in this film.Every kids has their own dream & own ambitions but schools are failing them. However the movies explains the conditions & factors what are resposible for failure education system. The movie delivers the reality through emotional impact and this is quite appreciable. This is a very powerful passionate & revolutionary effort to deliver the truth. The least informative part of the film is Teacher's unions perspective shown in lamelight that further suffers backlash from the teachers themselves. The movie also fails to investigate the tenure system for poor performing schools. The message of the movie is You can't have a great school without having great teachers. I would advise the filmmaker to remake this movie & to exhibit more focus on solution to this sensitive issue & to have more research based analysis other than showing contemporary teaching scenario & showing the hurdles rather than how to change it completely.
