Explanation / Answer
A transformational leader leads the team by facilitating motivation. Transformational leadership style helps fellow team members to motivate each other, increases the level of morality as well as motivation of the followers. It helps set clearer and achievable goals, it encourages the followers to perform better, provides support and recognition which helps the followers to reach their maximum potential.
Transactional leadership style on the other hand relies on punishment and reward mechanisms. Transactional leaders are not very flexible. They are very rigid in their way of dealing with employees. They discourage independent thinking. This kind of style rewards employee's desirable behaviour in terms of performance and punishes undesirable behaviour. It is a very directive style of leadership where the leader constantly supervises.
