The Advanced MAths problem is : Define the function f(x) = (x – 1) /( x ^32 – 1) in  mathlab --

Solution: As I do not MATLAB in my office PC, I am just doing the limit value of f(x) as x tends to 1

We know, x 2 -1 = (x-1) (x+1) so that limit of x tending to 1 for f(x)= (x-1)/( x 2 - 1)

= limit x tending to 1 of 1/(x+1) = ½.

This can be extended to limit x tending to 1 of f(x) = (x-1)/ (x3 - 1) = (x-1)/ ()/( x 2 + x + 1) = 1/3.

Thus, for f(x) = (x – 1) /( x ^32 – 1), the function approaches to 1/32 as x tends to 1.
