Q1.In the 1920's many American lives were improved greatly, but some lives were as bad as they had been before. The economy was booming, with cars being mass produced, and many other consumer goods such as radios, were widely available. Also more jobs became available, and many people received a par rise. However there were bad things such as racism about. Many ethnic minority groups were treated poorly.During the 1920's there was an economic boom in America. With the new system of mass production there was plenty being made, and then sold especially cars. During the war period, the women took on the jobs that the men at war had previously done. On the down side,the lives of black people in the 1920’s were far from improved. Segregation meant that the black and white people were completely separated. Life did not change for the better for all Americans in the 1920's. The two main benefactors were the women, and the people that worked. Also industries such as the car industry prospered. But then, there were the farmers who lost their farms because they could not afford to pay off debts. Also the black people had a very hard time. Prohibition was possibly one of the worst things in America in the 1920's. The 1920's were prosperous for many people, but for others the 1920's may have brought the end. Q2.Right now, in the US, progressivism is a set of attitudes rather than a set program for change. In general it inclines to the left of the current center of politics so it mostly exists as the left wing of the Democratic Party. It is concerned with levels of economic inequality without proposing any solution other than even more progressive taxes. It sometimes shares concerns with libertarians about individual rights, e.g. in the realm of sexual behavior and bodily control free from government censure. Socialism usually has meant a call for the government to own a country's key assets: land and buildings and factories and farms. Socialism is considered the mother of progressivism which explains their common goal of attaining equality among individuals in society. In the US there are some tiny political parties that espouse socialism that get few votes and rarely get anyone in office; in the past the Soviet Union sometimes was secretly supporting both them and the US Communist Party. Socialist parties are like religions and like to fight each other over arcane ideological points.
